Ready for Class
So it took much longer than I was anticipating. I couldn't settle on just 12 images. I think I have just over 20. Some of which are now on flickr.
It's late so I'll talk more about the class later. What I can say now is that I really, really, really dig taking nude photos.
Good night.
The Dog With No Name
Well, we decided that it was time for a dog... And we also decided that we wanted to rescue a dog from an animal shelter like the SPCA. We found this girl up on the Sunshine Coast. She's 2 years old and was used for breeding in a puppy mill. She's never seen a leash... never ever been properly walked. Her name is (was) Powder but she's never been called by it. She's not even properly house trained. Very sad really. She's quite timid though doesn't seem to have a big problem with people as long as there are no sudden movements. Apparently she's a bit freaky around other dogs.
We've already had our first big scare. During the first intermission of the hockey game (YA CANUCKS!), we decided that I should run the dog out to make sure it didn't have to... crap.
As mentioned, this pooch was never walked. Had never really been on a leash. About 2 minutes into the walk, she managed to wiggle her head out of her collar. Totally my fault for trying to drag her...
So of course she runs. But she doesn't just run away, she kind of freaks out a bit and starts running around. Remember, she's never even really been in a city before. So she runs a bit, stops and looks back at me. I'm freaking a little. I yell after her and she runs away. Stops and looks back. The faster I run to her, the more freaked she gets and runs away. We live on fairly quite streets and fortunately, no cars were coming as she darted all over the road. But she was heading toward 2nd Avenue where there is huge traffic.
Again, the faster I run to her, the more scared she becomes. Before I can stop it, she's out in the middle of 2nd Avenue. Fortunately the cars stop as I'm chasing her back and forth. Finally she stops and becomes submissive and I have to drag her off the road where I carefully put her leash back on. As she was heading for the busy road, I thought that was it, she was a goner. It was a pretty scary 4 or 5 minutes of my life.
We need to get her trained up as quickly as possible or there will be many more scary moments.
Any ideas for a name?
Colour me annoyed
Can a heterosexual man say that? "Colour me whatever?" Probably not. But still, I'm annoyed.
So I signed up for an advanced lighting course at Vancouver Photo Workshops. I had been looking forward to this for a few weeks now. I enjoyed the last course but I felt it was a bit... remedial for me. So this time, I was going to take something... 'advanced'. I received an email last night saying that the class was canceled due to low registration.
pfft.
So I changed to a Photoshop course. I've been meaning to take a formal photoshop course anyway but I was really looking forward to playing with equipment that I can't afford. Oh well. If I could just find good used, cheap lighting equipment, I should probably just buy that. Don't tell Rachel though.
I've also been looking at signing up for their "New Nude" course. That's not a joke. I've always wanted to take a class on photographing the nude body. I can't imagine anything more challenging when it comes to photographing people. Unfortunately their last course had started at the beginning of April. Next time. Oh, and yes, Rachel knows and very supportive. At least she says she is...

Jim the Dog
So what happens when someone lets a dog into your studio photo shoot with attractive models? You forget the models and take pictures of the dog of course.
So first and foremost, a HUGE thank you to everyone that so generously donated to my Movember movement. With your support, we've raised $300 (!) that will go to the good people at Prostate Cancer Canada.
You may be relieved to know that the 'stache is now gone. And probably will remain gone... until next year.
